Verónica de Zea Bermudez
Full Professor at UTAD
Verónica de Zea Bermudez graduated in Chemical Engineering and obtained a MSc. degree at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon. She got a PhD. in Electrochemistry from the Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble (France).
In 1993 she joined the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro where she assumed responsibility for the Chair of Materials Science in the Department of Chemistry. She became Full Professor in 2012. She has been Principal Investigator of the Materials Chemistry Research Group of the Chemistry Center of Vila Real since 2003. She belongs to the Board of Directors of the International Sol-Gel Society (ISGS) since 2017.
Her main interests include: sol-gel chemistry and self-assembly; amorphous/ordered organic/inorganic hybrid materials; complexity, emergence, self-organization, metastability, and fractality in organic/inorganic hybrid materials; silk fibers for dermal patches, batteries, and electrochromic devices; (bio)hybrids (doped with ionic salts, ionic complexes, ionic liquids, and ionosilicas), and nanofluids based on carbon dots functionalized with ionic liquids, for batteries, fuel cells, electrochromic/thermotropic devices, down-shifting layers, and solar concentrators; plant-inspired superhydrophobic coatings.
She co-authored two USA patents, published 11 book chapters and, co-authored over 200 articles in international SCI journals.
